Check a deal in 60 seconds

  1. Check the price history

Use camelcamelcamel or Keepa (Amazon), or PriceRunner and idealo in the UK and Europe.

  2. Compare the exact model

Sales often feature older or retailer-specific models with similar names. Match the model number.

  3. Check the seller

On marketplaces, check who is actually selling and shipping it, and their return policy.

  4. Know your returns

UK and EU online buyers usually get 14 days to cancel. US returns depend on the store’s policy.

Which gadgets get the biggest discounts?

Patterns repeat every year: Amazon’s own devices (Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, Ring) are discounted most heavily during Amazon events; robot vacuums, headphones, TVs and air fryers are Black Friday regulars; brand-new flagship phones and consoles rarely get big cash discounts, but bundles, gift cards and trade-in boosts are common.

Rules on “was” prices

In the EU, when a shop announces a price reduction it must show the lowest price it charged in the previous 30 days, so “was” prices can’t be inflated just before a sale. In the UK, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) can act against misleading pricing. In the US, the FTC has guidance on deceptive former-price comparisons. Even so, a price tracker is the quickest reality check.
